Penelitian di Spanyol menghasilkan, sukarelawan yang memilih camilan susu skim dicampur kokoa selama sebulan mengalami penurunan kolesterol jahat atau low density lipoprotein (LDL) hingga 14 persen, sedangkan kolesterol baik atau high density lipoprotein (HDL) naik 5 persen. Itu berkat kandungan polifenol antioksidan dalam kokoa.

- Edamame

Edamame mengandung protein soya. Dalam banyak penelitian, protein soya terbukti berguna untuk menurunkan kadar kolesterol LDL sebanyak 10 persen dan kolesterol total hingga 7 persen, jika dikonsumsi secara rutin. Kukus edamame tanpa menambahkan garam.

- Kacang-kacangan

Bukan hanya menaikkan rasio kolesterol HDL, kacang-kacangan juga menurunkan trigliserida sehingga baik untuk kesehatan jantung. Demikian yang dilaporkan Archieves of Internal Medicine. Konsumsilah sepertiga cangkir kacang-kacangan setiap hari.
